The Story of Me
The Story of Me
Babies, Bodies, and a Very Good God
by Stan Jones & Brenna Jones
Even from an early age, kids are curious about many things―including bodies and babies. Although it can be challenging to determine how much information to give them early on, young children can begin to develop a wonder and appreciation for God’s marvelous gift of sexuality by understanding the basics of pregnancy, birth, and growth.
Using age-appropriate language and illustrations, The Story of Me explains:
The growth of a child inside a mother’s body
How a mother gives birth
How breastfeeding works
How babies grow once they are born
What makes girl and boy babies different
Bodily autonomy and privacy
Framing everything within the larger story of God’s wonderful design, your child can begin to understand that God is the giver of good gifts, including the gift of our bodies.
Designed for children ages 3 to 5.
Compass Reviewed
As a family, we use this series for our Health Studies homeschool program. We find 'The Story of Me' to be one of the best ways to introduce the topic of God's Design for Sex and the recommended ages of 3-5 would be appropriate for Book 1. Book 1 simply introduces an understanding that God created us, he intended for babies to have a mother and a father, that you are specially made as either male or female, and then walks kids through the stages of a growing fetus into infancy in an age appropriate manner. The use of realistic watercolour illustrations and age-appropriate language allows kids to gain an understanding of their unique selves while not shying away from the proper/scientific names for private body parts. The mix of scientific facts, along with God's Word, gives parents a tool to help their child better understand this topic.

I am glad my parents read this to me when I was little so I knew this stuff, but parents should read it first before reading it to their kids.
