Equipping men and women to passionately proclaim the Gospel of Jesus through biblically sound, Christ-centred preaching.
One of the things that attracted Bailey and me to The Compass Church was the preaching. When I say that, I am not talking about how gifted Blair is as a communicator (although he is a very gifted communicator) but what I am referring to is that opening the Word of God at our Sunday gatherings is something that was not skimped out on. For a solid hour, Blair would walk through a text and dive deep into it no matter how easy or controversial it appeared to be. We loved it!
As a church, we take very seriously the call of Paul in 2 Timothy to “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season.” We are committed to the publicly proclamation of God's Word week in and week out. The other thing we are deeply committed to, which I believe goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to preaching the Word, is the raising up of new preachers. We have done this over a number of ways since The Compass was planted eight years ago, but the conviction has remained the same.
In the New Year, we are continuing this commitment to preaching the Word of God and raising up preachers and communicators through a three-week preaching lab focused in on biblical preaching.
Compass Preaching Lab
This lab has been designed to help give someone new to preaching a basic understanding of what goes into preaching a biblical, Christ-centred sermon. But it is also designed to help anyone who wants to grow in the area of communication to groups of people – either in an area of ministry or vocation.
Over the three weeks we're together, we will learn together as a cohort about what it means to be a faith biblical preacher and we will be given a basic foundation for biblical preaching as we look at four main areas:
- Preaching the Word
- The preacher's character
- The preparation
- The delivery of the sermon
Finally, at the end of the lab, each participant will have an opportunity to preach a 12 minute sermon on an assigned text and receive constructive feedback.
6:30 - 8:30pm
This is a non-refundable registration fee.
This lab is available to both men and women who want to explore the area of preaching and teaching and grow in their gifting.
We currently have a participation limit of seven per lab, so if you are interested, we encourage you to register below. The registration cut-off date for this term is January 1, 2019.
